All roads in Sivasagar lead to International Shiva Festival

 SIVASAGAR, Feb 13 – Deputy Commissioner Narayan Melang Konwar inaugurated International Shiva Festival 2018 by lighting the ceremonial lamp in the premises of the historic Shiva Doul today as Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal postponed his programme till tomorrow due to unavoidable engagements.Konwar in his speech called upon all sections to contribute and extend hospitality to the tourists to continue the good tradition of Assamese society.

The inauguration ceremony was addressed among others by Kamakhya Prasad Tasha, MP, Jorhat as the chief guest, Subodh Sonowal, SP of Sivasagar, Ganga PD Borgohain, Bhaben Mohan, president of district BJP and Pratap Kachari of Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council.

Tasha said that efforts are on to put Sivasagar in the international tourist map (the NE Circle on the tourist guide map). ONGCL has assured an assistance of Rs 36 crore for infrastructure development, which will benefit the tourists. The feeling of insecurity must be done away with by all means as the investors do not want to come to Upper Assam, he added.

Sivasagar and Charaideo district administrations have declared February 15 as local holiday to facilitate devotees in both the districts to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva.

Hundreds of traders thronged the festival mela from different parts of the country. A number of foreign tourists were seen attending the inauguration ceremony along with the artists accompanying renowned artist Utpal Boruah,The artists and designers were busy drawing sketches and paintings in Boarding Field, the main venue of the closing ceremony. A quiz competition among school children was conducted in the Boarding Field while in the evening noted Japanese Kathak dancer Masoco Sato will perform to give the spectators a taste of Indian culture presented by a foreign maestro.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will address the people and take part in the festival tomorrow. He will inaugurate a Police Reserve in a new location at Zenganikatia tomorrow at 10 am.
