SILCHAR, Feb 13 – In what could be called a sweet revenge, Army Green Bengaluru defeated the defending champions Mizoram in the 32nd Captain NM Gupta Football Tournament played at the SM Dev Stadium on Tuesday.Banking on the match winning goal scored by Nanish Singh off a corner in the 42nd minute of the match, Army Green dominated the rest of the match over an aggressive Mizoram team.
The champion team received the trophy and cash award of Rs 5 lakh from Silchar MP Susmita Dev, Deputy Speaker Dilip Kumar Paul and other guests from the defence forces. The runners-up received the trophy and a cash award of Rs 2 lakh.
Meanwhile, moments after the referee blew the final whistle to end the match, players from the Mizoram dugout lashed an attack on the referee and assistant referees which led to a serious chaos and assault on a few officials and media persons as well. While Sujith, the coach of the Army Green expressed satisfaction after the win, Silchar DSA president Babul Hore said that they are waiting for the report by the match officials on the chaos caused by players from team Mizoram.
