Backlog vacancies in State govt, PSUs to be filled soon

 GUWAHATI, Feb 13 – Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale today said that his Ministry would ensure the filling of backlog of all Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe posts in the State within a year. The Minister, who took stock of the existing backlog of SC and ST posts in the State government, BSNL, Airport Authority of India, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and NF Railways, told the media here that both the State government and the PSUs are proactive in filling the posts and have assured him of zero backlog within a year.

“Various departments of the State government had a backlog of 3,603 SC posts of which 673 posts have been filled up under a special drive. Similarly of a total backlog of 9,993 ST posts of which 1,071 posts have been filled and the government is in the process to fill the rest of the posts within one year as I was informed,” Athawale said.

Besides, of the total strength of 5,000 employees in the BSNL, there is a backlog of eight SC and 13 ST posts. In AAI there is no backlog of SC, whereas four ST posts are to be filled. In NFR also no such backlog exists, the Minister said.

The Minister also said that one of the major focus areas of his ministry was disability sector and steps have been taken to ensure adequate free distribution of aid and appliances among the differently able persons.

The Minister however, could not give any details of the backlogs existing in the disability sector or of OBC class in Assam.
