GUWAHATI, Nov 23 – The Court of Special Judge, Assam today rejected the bail petitions of 16 Assam Civil Service (ACS), Assam Police Service (APS) and allied service officials arrested in connection with the cash-for-job scam on charges of securing jobs through payment of money. The Court following a strong opposition by special public prosecutor BK Mahajan and perusal of the case diary submitted by Dibrugarh Police also dismissed the anticipatory bail petition of another accused ACS officer Nishamoni Deka, who is still on the run.

Another arrested APS officer Hemanta Hillol Saikia who too had earlier moved a bail petition, withdrew it at the last moment.

In response to the prayers of Sunayana Aideu and Geetali Doley, two other arrested lady civil service officials, the Court has directed the jail authorities to facilitate their meeting with their children during judicial custody as per the provisions of the jail manual. This is allowed due to the medical condition of the wards of the two accused currently in judicial custody.

Among those whose bail applications were rejected included Sudipta Goswami Bhattacharjee, Dilip Kumar Kalita, Kamal Debnath, Dwithun Borgayari, Himangshu Chowdhury, Sabbira Imran, Pallabi Sarma Choudhury, Jayanta Kumar Nath, Dipak Khanikar, Jatindra Prasad Baruah, Kunal Das, Amarjit Das and Harsha Jyoti Bora, Jyotirmoy Adhikary and Badrul Islam Choudhury.

“From the case diary it is revealed that the investigating officer has collected sufficient materials in support of the allegations. Considering the gravity of the offences and also the interest of the State in general, the bail applications stand rejected,” stated Special Judge A Bhattacharya in his order.
