Silchar, March 30: The 6th biennial conference of BSNL Pensioners’ Association, SSA, Silchar, has been organized at Gandhi Bhawan, Park Road of Silchar on Thursday. A number of vital points and items formed the agenda of the meeting. Submission of draft annual report, audited accounts by the treasurer, discussion on organizational matters, functioning of the Association, financial matters, formation of new branches, election of office bearers for the next term were some of the other items in the agenda. Talking to The Sentinel, Manoranjan Das, district secretary, BSNL Pensioners’ Association, Silchar SSA, Silchar, said, “There are lot of grievances and we want that our basic demands should be atleast fulfilled. We are facing a lot of problems and all these will be discussed at this biennial conference.”
Manoranjan Das said, “Of late, these problems have increased manifold. Due to the rise in price of essential commodities, pensioners are going through untold sorrows and sufferings.” He also said that BSNL pensioners used to get reimbursement of medical bills. This system has been changed since October 5, 2011. “Pension amount of persons who have retired till June 2001 has not been cleared as of now. Recently, the Court has passed a verdict in our favour, he added to say. Among others present at the conference, include S P Chakraborty, president, P J Choudhury, vice-president, J L Paul, patron, S K Sen, joint secretary of the Association.
