Capt Gupta football begins

 SILCHAR, Jan 31 – In what could be called an exciting start to the 32nd Captain NM Gupta memorial football tournament, the team from Mizoram, the reigning champions, snatched the match from the NF Railway SC 3-2 in the second encounter played under lights at the SM Dev Stadium today.MS Dawngliana opened the account for Mizoram in the fifth minute while Sibra Narzary scored the equaliser seven minutes into the second half. MC Malswamzuala put the Mizoram team 2-1 ahead in the 65th minute but it was Chayaram Basumatary who made it 2-2 in the 84th minute. NFR’s joy was only short-lived as a minute later Lalremruwata netted the match winning goal.

Earlier, in the day, the Army Green, Bangalore won the inaugural match against the Bihar Regimental Centre by 2-0.

Inspector General of Assam Rifles East Major General Upendra Dwivedi along with DSA president Babul Hore and other distinguished guests interacted with the players during the ceremonial inauguration of the tournament.

“We are elated to be associated with the DSA Silchar and the Indian Army in organising the tournament aimed to strengthen the bonhomie between security forces, civil administration and the local people,” Diwvedi said in his speech in the opening ceremony.
