NALBARI, Jan 12 – Bihu festivities have gripped the entire Nalbari district with the people making attractive bhelaghars and mejis at different places. A competition is being seen among the among to make their bhelaghar and meji more attractive with new concept than others. At Morowa village, the people have constructed a large bhelaghar as a replica of the famous London Bridge spending an amount of Rs 5 lakh. They have also organised a two-day Bhogali Utsav from January 14.
The people of Sonkuriha village of the district have erected a large bhelaghar as a replica of a goat, the vehicle of the Fire God. The 18-feet long and 10-feet high bhelaghar is attracting curiosity. On the other hand, the community of Bongaon have constructed their bhelaghar as a two-storied building and arranged a feast on the uruka night. The people of Barnardi village of the district constructed a bhelaghar as the model of their historic Bishnu temple. The artistic creativity and the new concept of meji and bhelaghar has no doubt attracted people from all ages.
In the face of allegations that the new generation is not interested in their tradition and culture, this has again proved that in some areas at least they are still concerned about their art and culture.
