Maj Gen Upendra Dwivedi takes over as new IG of AR

 SILCHAR, March 19 – Major General Upendra Dwivedi has taken over as the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East). He took over charge from the outgoing IG, Major General MV Chandran, (YSM SM) on Sunday.

Major General Dwivedi had previously commanded 26 Sector Assam Rifles in Manipur, besides holding many distinguished command and staff appointments at various levels in the Army.

Major General MV Chandran was given a warm farewell, including from the civil administration. He expressed his gratitude to all sections of the people and members of the media for their sustained support and affection.

He effectively tackled insurgency in South Assam and Jiribam and successfully worked towards making the Assam Rifles (East) true ‘Friends of the Hill People’.

It may be mentioned that the territory of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) geographically is the largest in terms of area covering the States of Tripura, Mizoram, four districts of South Assam and Jiribam district of Manipur.
