GUWAHATI, Feb 14 – Vigilance & Anti Corruption sleuths today raided four properties of Divisional Forest Officer Aftabuddin Ahmed in connection with a disproportionate asset case.IGP (VAC) Anurag Tankha confirmed the raids and said his properties were being assessed.

Ahmed’s multi-storey residences at Sundarpur and Nayanpur and those at Spanish Garden and Six Mile were searched during the raids which began early today. Besides those, sources said the DFO also owned other property, including plots and accommodations in the State and outside.

Ahmed, known to be close to a former Congress minister, was presently posted as DFO (Silviculture).

Sources in the Forest department said there were several allegations against the officer, particularly during his tenure as DFO, Nagaon, where he was posted for several years.

“He was transferred by the Election Commission from Nagaon in 2011, but he did not vacate his residence. After the elections, he was brought back again to Nagaon,” the sources added.
