Rape, murder accused lynched in Tezu

 ITANAGAR, Feb 19 – An angry mob on Monday reportedly broke into the Tezu police station in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh and thrashed to death two alleged rape and murder accused after dragging them out from their cells.The two accused were alleged to have brutally raped and murdered a five-year-old girl child at Namgo village. The girl’s body was found on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Sanjay Sobar and Jagdish Lohar, were stripped naked, beaten and dragged through the Tezu township by the angry mob before being lynched at main Chariali of the town, according to police sources.

Both the accused persons hailing from neighbouring Assam were arrested from Namgo village under Wakro Circle of Lohit district. Police found the body of the victim, a student of Gyan Sarovar Academy, near a tea garden, few kilometers from Namgo village on February 18 after she had gone ‘missing’ since February 12 last.

Police swung into action and arrested the two persons who had reportedly confessed to the crime. The police were powerless and outnumbered and could not do anything to stop the public lynching, said a police officer on condition of anonymity.
